There are a several activities that I have my students working on with their computers. One that I have used successfully is an Oral Reading Record. Using programs such as One Note (part of the Microsoft Suite) or Powerpoint, each month the students record their reading of a novel or another assignment. They first record the title of the book they are reading, summarize what they have read thus far in the book and then they choose a paragraph or two to read into their computer. At the end of the year they can "hear" their improvement. This is also a great sharing piece for part of a student led conference.
